Freedom Trail - Boston

The Freedom Trail in Boston is today's excursion. It says that it is 2.5 miles / 4 km in length. We, the walkers dispute that!! It felt a lot longer. We learnt much about the history of the fight for Independence of the "New England" colonies from British Rule. Politics, battles, skirmishes and how they changed and shaped the new American colonies. There was the battle of Bunker Hill, the burning of Charlestown, Paul Revere's ride to warn the British are coming, and the formation of the group who authored and signed the Declaration of Independence. So much history and so well documented. We had lunch in the oldest continuous restaurant in the USA, The Union Oyster House, established in 1826. No, we didn't have oysters, we had clam chowder! The weather was perfect for our day, cool but fine.

  2. Beautiful blue skies, you must be happy travellers. Love the architecture - those red bricks! I'd love to sit inside the oldest tavern. It's a mini Flatiron, if not somewhat more rounded than it's Big Apple descendant.
