We finally made it. Arrived a little earlier in LA at 6am. It took us just on an hour to make it through Immigration and Customs. A long wait in LA for our flight to Boston, that was scheduled for 1:10 but didn't take off until 2:30. A reasonable flight but was extended as there was a big storm (lots of lightning) over Boston, so we needed to take the long way round to get to the airport. We got to bed just after 1am - 32 hours from door to door. But once the head hit the pillow, there wasn't much going to wake us.
Our tours this morning were around the Adam's family home - no, not Gomez ! - but John and his son John Quincy, both early presidents of the United States. Their life could be described as reluctant diplomats but both had pivital roles in shaping the beginnings of a new country. Their birth houses still stand, plus one of their other residences including a beautiful library made of stone, so that it would not burn down. Their graves are now in the crypt of the church that was the family church, though the original building is no longer standing.
An afternoon of rest is in order so not much more to report. It has been hot today, up in the 30's so we needed the afternoon to recover.

Plus our first squirrel sighting - out our window on the roof of next door.
Great to be in New England. With transfers and delays it was a looooong journey !!
ReplyDeleteToday was great - so much history in the Quincy ( pronounced Quincy) suburb of Boston and we still haven't hit the Big Smoke - that's tomorrow. The Adams Family (not the one you're thinking of) contributed so much to early America, including John's second cousin Samuel, a brewer who contributed a mighty fine beer !!
Pretty sure John Adams gets a mention in Hamilton?!
DeleteOops, jet lag - it's pronounced Quinzy !!
ReplyDeleteDay one - box ticked - bring on the next day.....Carolyn
