Long Day in Maine

We travel from the Maine wilderness to the Atlantic sea.

We travel via the Lakes District and view Canada from afar. It is New Brunswick in the distance.

We stop off at St. Croix, for an interpretive walk, at the site of the first French occupation of the Northern parts of the Americas. They suffered badly in their first year due to the weather and some bad planning, but built up a great relationship with the natives. The French were focused on trade in the early years of 1604/05 rather than colonisation. A few years later the British / European invasion occurred which was not as kind to the native population.

We head to the most easterly point of the USA, West Quoddy point, which just happens to have a lighthouse on it. It is a very pretty lighthouse and the temperature difference between there and inland has got to be seen to be believed. We started off at at 25 and 5 miles later we were down to 15. It was very windy of course.

We have a Maine lobster feast for dinner. And yes we enjoyed every mouthful. The most expensive dinner bar one, this trip. But worth every cent for the beautiful sunset view over the bay and inlet. Weather was perfect and will hopefully continue for another sea scenic day tomorrow.
