Blue skies are greeting us today. Yippppeeeee.
We have a look at the Burlington historic district which took a little time to find due to me being misled by marketing blurb for the city. Anyway when we got there, we were able to walk down a pedestrian mall with buildings dating back to the 19th century. We then went to the main buildings for the University of Vermont, and these are pretty special as they also date back to mid-19th century.

We head east then into Vermont's Green Mountains. At Waterbury, we have a factory tour of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. We get to sample the day's production Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. After we head to the "Graveyard" where discontinued flavours are "put to rest"!

Lunch is at the Trapp family cafe. Views are just fantastic. This is the same Von Trapp family immortalised in "The Sound of Music". After they left Europe they came to America and finally set up camp in Vermont. There they built a ski lodge which specialised in cross country skiing. Maria and Georg are buried on the property.

We travel to Stowe, both the ski area and then down to the town. It is a cute town. This is where we will be staying the night.

The dry weather and blue skies really showed off the beauty of Vermont. Tomorrow we head east and say good-bye. We have enjoyed our visit.
Lovely to think the von Trapp family settled in similar countryside to what they were used to...and doesn`t everything look so much better under a blue sky. Fingers crossed it`ll last a while!! Eve
ReplyDeleteThe Von Trapps, red bricks and Ben & Jerry's? These are a few of my favourite things! What a tip-top day.
